I have been interested in the rural world since I was little. My father used to take me to our farm back in Cuba, and I would lose myself exploring nature. The dirt getting into one's shoes while the smell of horse dominates the air rocking the palm trees. The sun pushing me to look away from the growing melons and my dad calling me to help him lift blocks of concrete. Life was quite different back then. I remember picking up flowers on my way to my grandmother's house after school, and I remember her smile every time I brought even the commonest of all. These memories make me long for simpler times. Exploring the place I currently reside with my little film camera makes me feel at peace. The serenity of rural Homestead brings back memories I thought of as forgotten. The moment I least expect it, a simple smell brings back thoughts of happiness and euphoria that are just indescribable. I sometimes still find myself picking up flowers during my walks, and the remembrance of my grandmother's smile takes me to a place of genuine peace and contentment.
